Declan McCusker is hoping Fermanagh can pick themselves up for the Tailteann Cup after last Saturday’s gut-wrenching loss to Down.
The Ernemen were on the cusp of their first Ulster SFC victory in seven years, only to have their hearts broken by late goals from Daniel Guinness and Ryan McEvoy.
“This is as hard a defeat as I have ever suffered,” the crestfallen Fermanagh captain told reporters afterwards.
“We played brilliant football for 25 minutes of the second half, probably as good as what we have played all year and got some great scores, and we were in control and had all the momentum,” the crestfallen Fermanagh captain told reporters.
“Conor Love kicked some wonderful points, and we knew that was in him, but sadly we could not get the momentum turned at the end.
“We put so much into winning this game and we have not won a match in the Ulster championship since 2018. Football is a funny game with a lot more lows than highs and we will just have to refocus now on the Tailteann Cup.
“We need to gather ourselves now for that competition as I think we are a good enough team to go all the way as we showed out there today.”
