Laois got up and running in their Allianz Football League Division 3 campaign this afternoon by demolishing Leitrim on a 3-20 to 0-6 scoreline in Ballinamore.
In what was a repeat of last year’s Division 4 final, the O’Moore men were in ruthless form as they hammered in three goals in the opening eight minutes against the hosts.
Kevin Swayne, Pa Kirwan and Benny Carroll raised the green flags as Laois went out to a 3-9 to 0-0 lead before Tom Prior registered Leitrim’s first point in the run up to half-time.
The one-way traffic continued in the second-half as Mark Berry, Kirwan and Damon Larkin helped bring the Leinster side’s tally up to 3-20, leaving the margin at 23 points when full-time whistle sounded.
In Aughrim, Wicklow battled past Waterford to earn a 3-17 to 1-19 victory that sees them off the mark in Division 4.
After last weekend’s shock loss to London, Oisin McConville’s side made their goals count against the Deise in this one.
Eoin Darcy and Andy Maher hit the net late in the first-half for the Garden men before Mark Kenny added their third in the 41st minute, with Dylan Guiry’s late strike at other end proving mere consolation for Waterford.
