A small piece of history has been made in Sligo with the formation of the county’s first camogie board.
The new board held its first meeting at the Sligo GAA Centre of Excellence in Scarden last week and aims to develop the game across the county at schools and club level over the coming years. Sixteen schools took part in the recent Sligo Cumann na mBunscol competition, which is a good starting point for the new committee.
“This is a huge step forward that will give girls equal access and enjoyment of our Gaelic games in Sligo. Congratulations to all involved and a big bualadh bos to our own club members who were instrumental over the last number of years building towards this hugely significant milestone,” Molaise Gaels posted on Instagram.
The Sligo camogie board officers are -
Chairperson: Matt O’Mahony (Coolera/Strandhill)
Vice-Chair: Orla Fitzpatrick (St Molaise Gaels)
Secretary: Tom Aspell (Tourlestrane)
PRO: Ed Mullaney (St Molaise Gaels).
