Offaly LGFA has called an EGM for after Christmas after its AGM was abandoned due to a lack of interest in the chairperson’s position.
And it has warned that all activities at both inter-county and club level will have to cease if the chair along with the other positions on the executive aren’t filled at the EGM on Tuesday, January 7. This raises the unthinkable prospect of Offaly having to pull out of the Lidl Ladies National League which throws in on January 26 with a trip to Wexford.
The election of officers was the second last item on the agenda, but it was at this point that the AGM was abandoned after a replacement for departing chairperson Tom Fitzmaurice couldn’t be found. The Naomh Ciarán clubman stepped down in order to give more time to his family after spending the last seven years in the position. Secretary Niamh Utangec from Clara also stepped down due to work commitments, while the vice-chairperson and assistant secretary roles also need to be filled.
In a statement released after the AGM, Offaly LGFA appealed to clubs to submit nominations to the EGM and avert a crisis.
“Unfortunately, the meeting had to be abandoned due to a lack of nominations for the Offaly LGFA chairperson position, despite the fact that the various executive officials and our county teams had given extremely excellent reports earlier in the evening.
“An EGM has now been scheduled for Tuesday, January 7 where it is hoped that all executive positions will be filled; failing this all football-related activities at both club and inter-county levels will have to stop.
