Monaghan GAA has led the congratulations to Shane McGuirk on becoming Lakeside World Darts champion.
The former Aughnamullen underage player claimed the title and a cheque for £50,000 at Frimley Green in Surrey last night after defeating Paul Lim of Singapore 6-3 in the final.
Known as 'The Arrow', the 29-year-old came into the tournament unseeded, but didn't drop a set until the decider against the vastly-experienced Lim, who famously became the first player to throw a nine-dart finish at the World Championships 34 years ago.
"Not only did Shane win the WDC World Darts Championship, but he also became the the first ever Irish winner. History made tonight, well done on an incredible achievement Shane!" Monaghan GAA posted on Facebook.
