Darren Gleeson is set to be ratified as the new Laois senior hurling manager.

Gleeson's name will go forward to the next county board meeting as the recommendation of the Laois Management Committee to replace fellow Tipperary man William Maher in the role.

The 2016 All-Ireland SHC winning goalkeeper's move to the midlands comes barely a month after he stepped down as Antrim manager after five years, with Davy Fitzgerald having since replaced him.

Gleeson, who initially served as a selector under Neal Pedan, guided the Saffrons to Joe McDonagh Cup wins in 2020 and '22, and kept them in the Liam MacCarthy Cup in 2023 and '24. They've also retained their Allianz League Division 1 status since winning Division 2 in 2020.

Laois were edged out by neighbours Offaly in this year's Joe McDonagh Cup final.
