Dublin crushed Cavan with a 5-17 to 0-13 victory at Kingspan Breffni this afternoon to make it two wins from two in the All-Ireland SFC group stages.

Played in sunny conditions before a 9,028 crowd at the Cavan Town venue, the underdog hosts had kept with their capital counterparts for the opening 22 minutes until Cormac Costello’s goal put the Dubs up by 1-5 to 0-4.

From there, the margin widened and the came back down to four again before Paddy Small punched in a squared pass from Con O’Callaghan and set the All-Ireland champions on their way towards a 2-9 to 0-7 half-time lead.

The opening minute of the restart saw Killian McGinnis hammer in the visitors’ third goal and there’d be another from Sean Bugler before Cian Madden got the scoreboard moving for Cavan again.

A couple of Oisin Brady points brough the Breffni men’s tally into double figure, but they were only playing for pride in the second period as the margin stood at 16 before Costello registered Dublin’s last score with an expertly converted penalty.

Dessie Farrell's men now face Mayo in the third round where the winners will top Group 2, while Cavan and Roscommon must battle it out for third place to see which team goes through to the preliminary quarter-finals.
