Kerry centre back and All-Ireland Poc Fada champion Fionán Mackessy will play his club hurling with O’Loughlin Gaels this year.
Mackessy is transferring to the reigning Kilkenny and Leinster champions from his home club St Brendan’s. He is also a talented footballer who achieved an unique double in 2022 when he was named on both the Sigerson and Fitzgibbon Cup Teams of the Year.
Speaking to Kerry's Eye, St Brendan's chairman Ger Hussey admitted: "Fionan will be a massive loss to St Brendan’s because he was always a player well ahead of his time.
"We wish him the best and to be fair he said he had to try it. He said that other fellas didn't do it and he said he might regret it if he didn’t give it a go. I told him if he ever wants to come back to St Brendan’s we will welcome him back with open arms.”
