Mayo football giants Castlebar Mitchels are mourning the passing of one of their brightest prospects.

Matthew Mullahy was also a talented soccer player with Castlebar Celtic. His funeral Mass will take place tomorrow (Wednesday) in Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar, followed by burial in Castlebar New Cemetery.

"Matthew was a very talented player and a great team-mate who played on our underage teams all the way up through the club,” Mitchels said in a statement.

"He played a pivotal role in the club winning a county Under-16A title in 2020.

"Last season he played on our Under-21 and Junior teams with the style and flair that he always brought to the game.

"We send our sincere condolences to his parents Sean and Grace, his brother Conor and all the Mullahy and McHale families and friends.

"May he rest in peace."
