Ulster University, UCD, TUS Midlands and UL are up-and-running in the Sigerson Cup.
Trailing holders UCC by five points at half-time, Ulster University never looked back after a goal from Danny Fullerton helped them to a 1-13 to 1-10 victory.
Daire Cregg, David Garland and Diarmuid Moriarty were all in fine scoring form as UCD signalled their intent with a 1-22 to 1-5 drubbing of ATU Galway after leading by 0-13 to 0-3 at the break.
A late goal from Jack Torpey handed last year's Trench Cup winners TUS Midlands a dramatic 3-11 to 2-13 win over SETU Carlow, whose goals were supplied by Colm Hulton and Oisín McGraynor. The Athlone side's other goal-scorers were Mark Gibbons and Matthew Whittaker.
At the Connacht GAA Centre of Excellence, Daniel Walsh, Ciaran Downes and Gearoid Hassett rattled the net in a 3-12 to 0-8 victory for UL over ATU Donegal.
The Round 1 action continues this evening when St Mary’s and ATU Sligo meet in The Dub at 8pm.
