Kildalkey secured the place in the annals of Meath GAA history by completing a treble of SHC, IHC and JHC successes at the weekend.
With the SHC and JHC titles already in the bag, the pressure was on Kildalkey’s second team to complete the final leg of a unique treble and they duly delivered with a 1-18 to 1-10 victory over Navan O’Mahonys in last Sunday’s IHC final replay at Páirc Tailteann. Matty Cully, whose last-gasp ’65 forced the replay, helped himself to 0-9, while Ross Flynn chipped in with 1-3 as the Village made history.
Kildalkey’s first team will face Offaly representatives Clodiagh Gaels in the Leinster Club IHC on Saturday, November 11, but the season is over for their newly-crowned intermediate champions who cannot compete in the province due to the rule which precludes second teams from taking part. Instead, O’Mahonys will represent the Royal County in the Leinster Club JHC against Leixlip next Saturday.
