Gowna recovered from a slow start to blitz Kingscourt Stars by 5-15 to 0-13 and claim their 10th Cavan SFC title at Kingspan Breffni yesterday.
Trailing by 0-2 to 0-6 after 16 minutes, the charges of Dermot McCabe and Fintan Reilly rattled off 2-1 in the space of three minutes to turn the final on its head. Impressive wing back Ryan Brady scored the opening goal before Eoghan Hartin equalised. Before Kingscourt knew what hit them, Darragh McConnon raised a second green flag in the 19th minute to give the winners a lead they wouldn't relinquish.
Oisín Pierson banged in a third goal in injury-time to leave Gowna perched on a 3-5 to 0-8 interval lead.
Meath star Jordan Morris pointed a free for Kingscourt straight after the restart, but it proved to be a false dawn as a ruthless Gowna outfit put the game to bed with a Tiarnan Madden brace of goals in the 34th and 39th minutes.
Gowna will host Donegal champions Naomh Conaill in the Ulster Club SFC quarter-final in two weeks' time.
