Johnny Doyle proved once again that class is permanent by producing a man of the match performance for Allenwood in yesterday’s Kildare IFC final.
The 45-year-old Kildare legend and current county team selector scored 0-3 (0-2 from frees) to help his beloved club to a 0-11 to 1-7 victory over Castledermot at Netwatch Cullen Park. Allenwood were seconds away from being eliminated in the quarter-final when Doyle scored a superb equalising point to force extra-time with Caragh before also overcoming Monasterevan in the semi-final.
A 63rd minute point from substitute Jack O’Brien secured the title for them yesterday as well as a Leinster Club IFC quarter-final against St Malachy's - who have another 'golden oldie' in former Westmeath star Alan Mangan playing for them - in two weeks' time.
