The Leinster club football championships get underway this weekend and it’s still not known who will represent Kilkenny in the junior competition.

Pilltown and Lisdowney will contest the Kilkenny IFC final at MW Hire Dunmore this evening, with the winner going on to face Westmeath junior champions Kilbeggan Shamrocks in the first round of the Leinster club JFC in The Downs on Saturday afternoon.

The three-day turnaround is in complete contrast to the three-and-a-half month wait Kilkenny senior football champions Mullinavat have had to their Leinster club IFC opener against Ballylinan of Laois in Stradbally on Saturday. The ‘Vat retained their football crown with a 3-7 to 1-9 victory over Thomastown at the start of July and it has been practically all hurling ever since on Noreside.
