Sarsfields paid a touching tribute to Teddy McCarthy by bringing the Cork SHC cup to his grave.

Sarsfields paid a touching tribute to club legend Teddy McCarthy by bringing the Cork SHC cup to his grave after Sunday’s county final victory over Midleton.

The Glanmire / Riverstown club came from behind at Páirc Uí Chaoimh to claim their first Cork SHC title in nine years. Afterwards, the team called to Rathcooney Cemetery to pay their respects to one of the GAA’s greatest dual stars who was Sarsfields vice-chairman at the time of his sudden passing in June.

Aged just 58, Teddy was the only player to have won All-Ireland medals in both football and hurling in the same year which he achieved in 1990. He scored three points from midfield in Cork's All-Ireland SHC final victory over Galway before lining out at wing forward for the footballers in their All-Ireland final defeat of Meath a fortnight later.
