The Offaly SHC final returned to Birr for the first time in 17 years last Sunday and among the 7,000-strong attendance was 99-year-old Maureen Hanley.
A great Gael, Maureen was as ever accompanied by her daughter Mary, who was secretary of Coolderry Hurling Club up until last year. It was Maureen’s 60th consecutive Sean Robbins Cup decider to attend and one that will be remembered for the carnival atmosphere created by the host club and a breathtaking display by Kilcormac/Killoughey who avenged last year’s loss to Shinrone in emphatic fashion.
