Glen came through a war of attrition with neighbours Slaughtneil at Owenbeg last night to move within 60 minutes of a three-in-a-row of Derry SFC titles.

Danny Tallon’s goal directly from a free early in the second half proved decisive as Malachy O’Rourke’s men prevailed by 1-5 to 0-6 to set up a county final showdown with 2020 champions Magherafelt in two weeks’ time.

In a repeat of the last two finals, Watty Grahams led by 0-3 to 0-2 at half-time with brothers Ethan and Jack Doherty supplying early scores. Slaughtneil had to wait until the 24th minute for their opening score from full back Chrissy McKaigue before Danny Tallon and Shane McGuigan traded frees leading up to the break.

The game was effectively won in the first 10 minutes of the second half when the holders rattled off 1-2 without reply, with Conor Glass kicking two points and Tallon’s free going all the way to the net. Glen didn’t score again, but Slaughtneil weren’t able to make up the deficit, despite points from Shane McGuigan (two), Brendan Rogers and Padraig Cassidy.
