Holders Na Piarsaigh advanced into their sixth Limerick senior hurling championship final in seven years after edging Doon in a penalty shoot-out this evening at the TUS Gaelic Grounds.
Kevin Downes fired in the winning penalty in the sudden death stages of the shoot-out to send the city side into another decider against Kilmallock or Patrickswell who square off tomorrow (Sunday).
Doon had led late in the first-half of normal time before a sideline free ended up in their net and, as a result, the sides would go in all square (1-10 to 0-13) at half.
Adrian Breen netted after the turnaround and it looked to put Na Piarsaigh in the driving-seat but Doon fought back to level it and at full-time the scoreboard read 2-18 to 0-24.
The sides couldn’t be separated there and it meant more drama in a penalty shoot-out where Downes came up trumps for the holders.
