Stefan Campbell celebrates

Stefan ‘Soupy’ Campbell inspired Clan na Gael to an extra time victory over neighbours Clann Éireann last night to book their place in the Armagh senior football championship final.

It finished 0-14 to 1-9 at the Box-It Athletic Grounds, where Clann Éireann sent in the rebound of a late penalty before Campbell’s free at the death sealed it for Clan na Gael.

Clann Eireann had held a 0-4 to 0-2 lead at the halfway stage of normal time, with county ace Conor Turbitt on the scoreboard for them, and they’d extend their lead to four after the turnaround.

Turbitt helped push his team’s lead out to six ahead of the victors’ strong finish in normal time seeing Shane McPartlan and Campbell firing over scores that had it at 0-9 apiece at the end of the 60 minutes.

McPartlan gave Clan na Gael the lead at the end of the first period in extra time and Callum O’Neill and Campbell extended to seemingly leave their club with one foot in the final.

With two minutes remaining, Clann Éireann won a penalty which saw Turbitt’s initial effort saved before Paul McKenna nabbed the ball and set-up the Armagh forward for the net.

The trailers searched for an equaliser, however they couldn’t find it as Campbell’s 10th point of the night sealed Clan na Gael’s final berth against either Crossmaglen Rangers or Madden.
