Na Piarsaigh GAA has distanced itself from reports that it is planning an U14 hurling “warm weather training camp” in Portugal in conjunction with fellow Limerick club Monaleen next Easter.

A social media post last weekend said that Monaleen GAA club has "teamed up with our neighbours Na Piarsaigh, to train and play hurling in Portugal". The post added that the camp would be "an unbelievable trip for our players as they will live like an intercounty player and experience the full benefit of warm weather training in a 5-star purpose-built sports resort,” and stipulated that each player must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

However, Na Piarsaigh tweeted yesterday that it won’t be taking part in the proposed training camp which has been met with disbelief by many online.

"Na Piarsaigh GAA are aware of social media posts and comment surrounding a proposed underage trip to Portugal," the club tweeted.

"Na Piarsaigh wish to state, no trip of any kind to Portugal in 2024 has been considered or agreed by Executive Committee.

"No further comment will be made by the club."
