Castlebar Mitchels became the first team to book their place in the semi-finals of this year’s Mayo SFC thanks to a 2-10 to 0-13 extra time win against Ballintubber in Breaffy this evening.
In tough conditions, the sides could not be separated after 60 minutes and it was Mitchels that found their goal-scoring touch in the added periods, with an long ball in from the throw-in ending up in the Ballintubber net right at the start of first-half extra time.
It was the 31-time champions taking in a 1-10 to 0-11 lead at half-time, while Ballintubber did get back within one, another Mitchel’s goal (watch it below) sealed the deal for the town side.
The latter quarter-final clash in Claremorris saw 2021 winners Knockmore defeating Charlestown by 0-13 to 0-9 back into the last four in the Paddy Moclair Cup race.
