Tourlestrane’s bid for an eight-in-a-row of Sligo SFC titles ended in gut-wrenching circumstances last weekend.

Last year's Connacht runners-up suffered their first championship defeat within their own county since 2015 when they succumbed to Drumcliffe/Rosses Point by 0-8 to 1-8 at Markievicz Park.

That result, coupled with Coolera/Strandhill’s 2-17 to 1-9 win over Tubbercurry, saw three teams - Tourlestrane, Drumcliffe/Rosses Point and Coolera/Strandhill - finish tied on six points in Group 2. When head-to-head scoring difference between the three teams was applied, each finished with a scoring difference of zero.

That left the scores for in the head-to-heads to decide who would advance. In this case, Coolera/Strandhill and Drumcliffe/Rosses Point progressed to the semi-finals after scoring just one point more than the long-time champions.
