Dublin CCC is set to launch an investigation into the ugly scenes that marred a club hurling match last Saturday evening.

Video footage of a brawl and a player wearing a tracksuit top being struck on the head with a hurl has been widely viewed on social media in recent days.

The melee broke out during the closing stages of the Dublin SHC3 game between St Sylvester's and Setanta in Broomfield. Referee Sean McCarthy was able to restart the play with a free-out before blowing his full-time whistle.

Setanta's 2-18 to 1-17 victory saw them qualify for the quarter-finals, while the result consigned their Malahide opponents to a relegation playoff.
