Westmeath overcome St Barnaba's in New York SFC final

Westmeath were crowned New York senior football champions for the first time since their double-winning year of 1996 following a thrilling 2-15 to 2-10 victory over St Barnaba’s at Gaelic Park on Sunday evening.

Goals from Westmeath hurling star Niall Mitchell and Gavin O’Brien were crucial to the Lake County’s comeback win over the 2020 and ’21 champions, who fielded a homegrown team. By contrast, the winners featured a host of players with inter-county experience, including Boidu Sayeh and Mitchell (Westmeath), Eric Lowndes and Emmett Ó Conghaile (Dublin) and Jack Savage (Kerry).
