Glen Rovers suffered relegation from the Cork Premier senior hurling championship yesterday (Saturday) evening after falling to a 1-16 to 1-13 defeat at the hands of Kanturk in Fermoy.

The result marks the end of Glen Rovers’ 97-year run in the topflight of hurling in the Rebel County, as they are set to play in the Senior A grade next season.

Kanturk recovered from a Dean Brosnan goal with a major of their own from Liam O’Keeffe on 21 minutes before a free from Patrick Horgan, who finished with 0-7, steered Rovers back in front and they lead by the slenderest and margins (1-7 to 1-6) at the half.

Alan and Colin Walsh launched over points early in the restart that steered Kanturk ahead and, with 10 minutes to go, the sides would be level before Alan Walsh nudged his team ahead and two from Brian O’Sullivan (0-8) down the home stretch would ensure Kanturk’s safety.
