Ciaran Meenagh won't be in charge of the Derry senior footballers next year after ruling himself out of taking the job on a permanent basis.

BBC NI is reporting that Meenagh - who replaced Rory Gallagher in the Oak Leaf hotseat on the eve of this year's Ulster SFC final - will instead focus on managing his native Loughmacrory in Tyrone and his teaching career in Draperstown.

Meenagh led Derry to back-to-back provincial titles following a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Armagh before guiding them through to All-Ireland SFC round-robin series and to an All-Ireland quarter-final victory over Cork.

But their season ended with a 1-15 to 1-17 All-Ireland semi-final loss to Kerry.

Former Fermanagh and Monaghan manager Malachy O'Rourke - who led Glen to the brink of All-Ireland club SFC glory earlier this year - is the early favourite to fill the vacancy.
