In yesterday’s only senior county final, Inniskeen ended Castleblayney’s bid for a seven-in-a-row of Monaghan SHC titles with a 1-11 to 0-13 victory in Clones.
Clare native Niall Arthur scored 1-6 before getting sent off in the final quarter as Inniskeen hung on for their first title since 2016. Niall Garland hit eight points for the holders who held a slender 0-8 to 0-7 lead at the break after Inniskeen ‘keeper Pauric Dowdall saved a penalty from his opposite number Hugh Byrne.
Arthur’s goal put Inniskeen in the driving seat and they withstood a late rally from ‘Blayney, with three frees from Padraig McGahon helping to get them over the line.
