Crossmaglen Rangers manager Anthony Cunningham hailed star Oisin O’Neill as “a leader among leaders” after making his return from an 18-month injury nightmare last weekend.

O’Neill missed Armagh’s entire 2023 campaign through injury, suffering a quad problem before having to undergo surgery in London on an Achilles injury.

The midfielder returned to action for the first time last Saturday evening, kicking three points from play in Crossmaglen’s drawn encounter against Clan na Gael.

The holders had led for long stages of the championship opener before county man Shane McPartlin struck 1-1 injury-time to snatch a draw for Clan na Gael and Cunningham was quick to hail O’Neill’s impact afterwards.

“Oisin is immense. Oisin is a leader amongst leaders. He got three points today,” he is quoted saying by BelfastLive.co.uk.

“There was one ball late on when we tried to go long to him. I think Rian (O’Neill, his brother) let him down with a bad pass to him. They can talk about that one themselves!”
