The death has taken place of Joseph Martin, author of 'The GAA in Tyrone: Raising the Red Hand'.

The tome, which chronicles the history of the GAA in the county, was originally published in 1984 to coincide with the GAA's centenary year. It was updated for a fourth time following the Red Hands' All-Ireland SFC triumph two years ago.

Aged 84, Joseph passed away at his home in Omagh on Sunday. He played for An Charraig Mhór Naomh Colmcille and the Tyrone minors in his youth before going on to serve as chairman and treasurer of the Carrickmore club.

Survived by his wife Marie and children Séamus, Sinéad, Declan, Ciaran and their families, Joseph will be laid to rest following Funeral Mass in Killyclogher tomorrow (Tuesday).
