Armagh and Clan na Gael star Shane McPartlan celebrates

Shane McPartlan’s last-gasp goal saw Clan na Gael snatch a share of the points against holders Crossmaglen Rangers in the opening round of the Armagh senior football championship last night (Saturday).

It finished 1-13 to 0-16 at Davitt Park, where the 47-time champions had led by four points in injury-time before conceding 1-1 that let the win slip away.

Cross had edged a 0-9 to 0-8 lead at the interval thanks to late first-half points from Oisin O’Neill and Odhran Kieran.

McPartlan sent over two frees to give Clan na Gael back the lead early in the resumption and the county midfielder would see a point from play ruled wide after some deliberation from the umpires.

Cross got motoring again with points via O’Neill and skipper Jamie Clarke and Aaron Kernan looked to have wrapped up the victory for them with a coolly taken point on the hour mark.

McPartlan’s sixth free of the night gave his side hope in the dying stages though and minutes later he the most of a perfect pass from Callum O’Neill to punch to the net and seal a dramatic draw on opening night.
