Kieran McGeeney has been ratified as Armagh senior football manager for a 10th season.

Club delegates assembled at the Athletic Grounds last night to vote on the matter amid speculation that there would be opposition to McGeeney's reappointment. But a statement from Armagh GAA suggested that clubs gave the 2002 All-Ireland SFC winning captain a ringing endorsement to continue.

“Following tonight’s County Committee meeting, club delegates have strongly supported and ratified Kieran McGeeney as Senior County Football Manager for the 2024 season,” the statement read.

Appointed as successor to Paul Grimley in 2015, McGeeney became the longest-serving inter-county manager after Colm Collins ended his 10-year reign as Clare boss this summer.

Under McGeeney, Armagh have become a formidable outfit, but silverware continues to elude them after three successive penalty shootout heartbreaks in last year’s All-Ireland SFC quarter-final against Galway, and this year’s Ulster SFC final and All-Ireland SFC quarter-final against Derry and Monaghan respectively.
