Crotta O’Neills are Kerry senior hurling champions for the first time since 1968 after defeating Lixnaw by 0-15 to 1-9 at Austin Stack Park this afternoon.

This derby decider saw the victors winning out thanks to a strong second-half display at the Tralee venue where points from Shane Nolan and Seanie McElligott.

Lixnaw had been leading 0-3 to 0-2 when they struck the game’s only goal through Mikey Kelliher in the 10th minute.

Crotta hung with their neighbours though and a couple of unaswered scores were backed up by a Nolan point on the stroke of half-time to leave it at 0-9 to 1-6 when the teams went in.

The men in green and red kept up their momentum after the turnaround and, at the back, they were able to keep their counterparts to just three points as late scores from Nolan and McElligott ended their club’s 55-year wait.
