Dunshaughlin's Mathew Costello

Donaghmore Ashbourne 1-10 Dunshaughlin 0-14

Dunshaughlin started this game with a few changes to the game team sheet with Starting roles for John McDonagh, Ciaran McCarrick, John Kinsella & Matthew Moyles .

Dunshaughlin found themselves under pressure from an Ashbourne Team intend in pushing forward and pressing in on Dunshaughlin defence line and soon ran into a 1-02 to 0-00 score after 4mins. Soon after Dunshaughlin opening score from a well worked point from Conor Duke on 6 mins, they started to find a foot hold around the middle third with kickouts been won and the breaking ball taken advantage off. Our intercounty players found themselves getting a lot of attention with pressure applied from Ashbourne . Dunshaughlin found themselves back into this game on 20mins with some wonderfully taken points from the famous left boot of Matthew Costello and Aaron Murphy .

A huge moment a minute later when Niall Murphy (Captain) came under an awkward and heavy tackle from the Ashbourne forward line as he cleared the danger area around the large rectangle – this resulted in an untimely substitution being called upon as Niall was carried from the pitch for attention. In comes Danny Quinn to help bolster the defence …

It was only a matter of time before Conor Gray found himself breaching the Ashbourne defence line with a powerful run in on goal and an equally measured shot on goal which required a moment of brilliance from Andy Colgan in the Ashbourne goals to deflect his shot away from goal but only for Ruairi Kinsella to pick it up and pop over from 13mtrs and draw the side level at 1-05 to 0-08 before Mathew Costello added his 7th point of the half from 30mtrs after Ruairi was brought down .

End to end through out the 1st half was brought to a close when referee Kieran Olwell blew his whistle .

Don/Ashbourne 1:05   Dunshaughlin 0:09

2nd half started as the 1st did with Ashbourne setting the pace with another point . Conor Gray will find himself very unlucky to see a black card on 2 mins by referee Kieran Olwell – the following moments of the game saw Dunshaughlin inviting the Ashbourne Players onto them with some great play, play that saw Ruairi Kinsella helping himself to 3 pointed frees from errors in Ashbourne play. Midway through the 2nd half, Matthew Moyles had spectators standing when with some excellent link up play around the 20mtr line released Matthew Costello in on goal only to see his shot go to the side netting.

John McDonagh point from play approx. 20mtrs out on 58mins moved the Black & Amber 1 point clear which was quickly corrected by Ashbourne on 60mins. Most opinions would have been with a draw game at this stage but when Adam McDermott found himself running the length of the pitch on a solo run after the pitch opened up to him before he played the ball over to better positioned team mate , the result in being a deflected ball out wide by the Ashbourne defence for a 45mtr free . Adam stepped forward to strike cleanly between the posts to see order been restored.

Referee Kieran Olwell blew for full time a minute later to see a well-deserved win for Dunshaughlin by the narrowest of margins.
