Wexford are on the lookout for a new senior hurling manager after it was confirmed yesterday that Darragh Egan will not continue in the role.

Egan succeeded Davy Fitzgerald in 2021 and enjoyed a positive first season in charge that included five wins in the National League and a Leinster SHC round-robin victory over Kilkenny before going down to Clare in the All-Ireland quarter-finals.

However, the Slaneysiders’ championship campaign this year saw them suffering a shock defeat to Westmeath before narrowly avoiding relegation down to the Joe McDonagh Cup.

A hard fought win over a Kilkenny team which had already progressed to the Leinster final proved to be Egan last game in charge of the Model men, as the county board announced on Monday that the Tipperary native’s term will not be extended.

"Wexford GAA wish to announce that, following the completion of a comprehensive review of the 2023 season, it has been decided not to extend Darragh Egan’s initial two-year term as senior hurling manager," a statement read.

"Wexford GAA wish to acknowledge and thank Darragh for the enormous efforts he and his backroom team have made since his appointment in September 2021 and wish them all well for the future.

"The process to appoint a new senior hurling manager will now commence."
