Zach Tuohy was presented with the match ball by Jim Stynes’ son Tiernan after breaking the late Dubliner’s appearance record for an Irish player in the AFL.
The lovely moment came after the Portlaoise man marked his 265th appearance in Geelong’s 62-point victory over North Melbourne at the GMHBA Stadium on Sunday. Tuohy played 120 games for the Carlton Blues before making a further 145 appearances for the Cats.
“Jim is a hero to everybody none more so than me and all the Irish guys I’m sure,” the former Laois minor star said.
“Jim is an absolute inspiration and it is bordering on slightly embarrassing for me to be alongside him.”
