Two records fell in Tipperary's 32-point demolition of Offaly in yesterday's 'thunder and lightning' All-Ireland SHC preliminary quarter-final at Glenisk O'Connor Park.
Tipp's tally of 59 points is the highest-ever in the All-Ireland SHC, beating Wexford's record from 1896. The 7-38 to 3-18 scoreline also makes it the highest aggregate total ever recorded in the championship and is the first to surpass the 80-point mark.
While Carlow - who edged out Offaly after extra-time in the Joe McDonagh Cup final three weeks ago - were much more competitive against Dublin and led at half-time before succumbing to a 0-21 to 2-25 loss in Netwatch Cullen Park, the mis-match in Tullamore is likely to spell the end of the preliminary quarter-finals.
