Tyrone got their first win in the All-Ireland senior football championship's round-robin stage this evening by edging out 14-man Armagh (0-13 to 0-11) in Omagh.

Darren McCurry was the difference between the sides in the first-half as his four points helped the home side to lead by 0-8 to 0-4 at the break.

Armagh’s task was made more difficult five minutes before half-time after a straight red card was issued to ace attacker Rian O’Neill whom appeared to kneel on the head of opponent Cormac Quinn and received his marching orders from referee Martin McNally.

Kieran McGeeney’s side battled back in this derby however, reducing a six-point deficit at one stage to just two thanks to the scores of Oisin Conaty, Conor Turbitt and Rory Grugan (2).

A brace of Darragh Canavan points raised Tyrone’s tally to 0-13 come the first minute of injury-time and it left the Orchard men needing a goal in the late stages and, while a half chance presented itself at the death, they were left to settle for a Conaty point which left them two short in the end.
