Conor Glass insists that Kilmacud Crokes' All-Ireland club SFC final victory is 'tarnished' and believes the whole saga was handled poorly by the GAA.
Crokes defeated Glass' Glen by 1-11 to 1-9 in the January 22 decider, which was overshadowed by the Dublin champions having an extra player on the pitch as they defended their goal in the closing stages. After days of inaction, the CCCC ordered a replay, only for Crokes to appeal the ruling to the CAC. This led to Glen withdrawing their earlier objection to the result.
“Everyone was let down by it. The GAA didn’t handle it very well at all," the Derry midfielder told reporters at the launch of the FRS Recruitment GAA World Games yesterday.
“[Kilmacud] broke the rules. The rules are there for a reason and if you break them and we’re entitled to a replay, so be it. If they had beat us the second day we’d have accepted that as well, but the rules are there for a reason.
“It’s tarnished now. There’s an asterisk over it either way. If we had won it, we would have accepted it, but it would have been tarnished. There would have been an asterisk either way.
“I’ve come to accept it now and that’s why I went back to the Derry set-up, to forget about it and move on.”
