Sligo retained their Connacht U20 football championship title after edging out Galway by 0-14 to0-13 at Tuam Stadium yesterday evening.
The Yeats County struck the last three points to claim the victory, with substitute Dillon Walsh fisting over the winner that denied Galway extra time and clinched the JJ Fahy Cup for the visitors.
It was Galway that made a sizzling start to this provincial decider, running up a 0-5 to 0-1 lead after 18 minutes with Cillian Ó Curraoin to the fore for them.
Substitute Joshua Flynn and Luke Marren (two frees) helped Sligo get back into contention as they went in at the break trailing 0-7 to 0-6.
The Tribesmen increased their advantage again after the turnaround and looked on course for the title as they led 0-13 to 0-11 in the game’s closing stages.
However, Sligo portrayed champions’ calibre as Marren and Daire O’Boyle shot points in injury-time prior to Walsh grabbing them the winner to retain their title.
Agus tá sé buaite ag Sligeach 😱
