Former Offaly football captain Johnny Moloney has completed a club transfer from Tullamore to Moycullen.

The long-serving centre back is living in Galway and has now decided to throw in his lot with the Galway and Connacht champions, according to Galway Bay FM. Moloney became a new dad last year and had stepped away from the inter-county fold before making the switch. While the transfer is a major boost to Moycullen, it’s a massive blow to his home club’s hopes of wrestling back the Dowling Cup from Rhode this year.

Moloney is the second Offaly footballer to head West in recent months, following in the footsteps of 2021 All-Ireland U20FC final man of the match Cathal Donoghue who has transferred from Kilcormac/Killoughey to Oughterard where he will line out alongside his cousin and Galway football star Matthew Tierney. However, Donoghue is unlikely to see any action this year due to a cruciate ligament injury.
