Killian O’Gara and Cormac Costello supplied the goals as Dublin cruised to a 2-19 to 1-11 victory over Meath in Navan this afternoon to leave themselves on the brink of a return to Division 1 of the Allianz Football League.

The first league meeting between the two old rivals at Pairc Tailteann since 1988 saw Dessie Farrell’s men in charge for large portions of the opening half, running up a 0-7 to 0-1 lead before the hosts struck a sorely needed goal through Matthew Costello on 20 minutes.

The Dubs sent over the next three points before O’Gara got in for their goal on 35 minutes, sending the capital men towards a commanding 1-11 to 1-2 advantage at the break.

Points from Lee Gannon, O’Gara, Con O’Callaghan and Brian Fenton kept the scoreboard ticking over for the Leinster champions and, with the game up for them, the misery was piled on for the Royals when Colm Basquel set-up Cormac Costello for Dublin’s second goal deep in injury-time.
