Antrim veteran Neil McManus described the Saffrons’ win over Laois last weekend as “huge” as they secured topflight league status for next season.

Darren Gleeson’s men scored a 3-18 to 1-18 victory over the O’Moore men at Corrigan Park which cemented their place in Division 1 of the Allianz Hurling League for 2024.

Speaking to BelfastLive.co.uk this week, McManus summed up the importance of the result for the Glensmen ahead of this weekend's final round clash against high-flying Tipperary.

“It is huge - it was a very important win for us,” said the 35-year-old.

“It is like everything in life. The level that you operate at is the level you learn at and we’re still learning. You have to learn in Division 1 to play at Liam McCarthy championship level - that’s the only way it works.

“You can’t do it from Division 2A of the league.

“For our young players are coming out of minor and U20 teams playing in Leinster ‘B’ competitions so our senior team has to be in Division 1 to give them a chance to acclimatise.”
