Omagh CBS secured their fifth MacRory Cup success after seeing off Holy Trinity Cookstown by 0-16 to 1-6 at Healy Park earlier today.
The victors were made to come from behind in this all-Tyrone decider after a shaky start saw Liam Lawn driving through and drilling to the corner of the net for last year’s beaten finalists.
Lawn’s strike saw the scoreboard reading 1-1 to 0-0 after seven minutes but the Omagh lads soon kicked into gear and five points from Ruairi McCullagh would help them towards a 0-9 to 1-3 half-time lead.
Caolan Donnelly was denied the Cookstown net early in the restart after a superb save from Ruairí Dillon but the winners wouldn’t rue the missed opportunity.
Conor Owens sailed over back-to-back frees and Liam Og Mossey added another point that saw them well on their way to the title.
Jack Martin did have a late goal chance for Cookstown but it was stopped on the line as Omagh went on to win out by seven in the end.
The new MacRory Cup champions will now face Naas CBS (Kildare) in the Hogan Cup semi-final later this month, with St Brendan’s Killarney (Kerry) and Summerhill College (Sligo) having booked their place in the last four yesterday.
