Pat Ryan’s reign with Cork got off to a winning start last night as the Rebels overcame neighbours Kerry by 2-30 to 2-17 in the opening round of the Munster Hurling League.

The Leesiders' strong start in Tralee ushered them towards a commanding 1-16 to 0-7 lead by the break, with Declan Dalton lashing in their goal from the penalty spot in the 22nd minute.

Shane Barrett had the sliotar in the home side’s net again within five minutes of the restart as Cork’s advantage was extended to 15 points.

Kerry did take some tarnish off the score-line with a brace of goals from marksman Podge Boyle, but Ryan’s men were able to hold out for their first victory of 2023.

Next up for the Rebels is a second round date with Limerick on Sunday week at Pairc Ui Rinn (2pm), while Kerry are set to take on the All-Ireland champions two days later in Rathkeale (7pm).
