Christmas came early for Dublin football fans last night (Wednesday) as Jack McCaffrey was back in the county’s colours for the first time in almost two years.
The five-time All-Ireland winner lined out at left half-back as Dublin North defeated Dublin South by 1-14 to 1-9 in the rescheduled Dave Hickey Cup charity match in DCU.
McCaffrey’s last appearance in a Dublin jersey came in February 2020 – just before the Covid-19 outbreak – and the Clontarf man stepped away from the squad when the inter-county season finally resumed that October.
Three months ago, Dublin boss Dessie Farrell confirmed that both McCaffrey and Paul Mannion, who is currently injured, would be returning for the Leinster champions for the 2023 season after their respective stints away from the squad.
