South Liberties are through to the Limerick SHC semi-finals for the first time since 1985 after they pulled off a surprise win over Patrickswell in Kilmallock yesterday.

Brian Ryan scored the only goal midway through the second half as the east Limerick side prevailed 1-13 to 0-14. Despite hitting nine first half wides, Patrickswell led by 0-8 to 0-5 at the interval, but Ryan's goal proved a game changer as Liberties went on to claim a famous victory.

It was a memorable day for the Ryan family with Brian's brother Tom also chipping in with two late points and their father Brian Snr overseeing the success.

Liberties' reward for knocking out last year's runners-up is a semi-final against Na Piarsaigh next Saturday in Kilmallock at 3.30pm. Bruff will be the venue for the other semi-final between Doon and Kilmallock at 3.30pm on Sunday.

The Limerick SHC final is fixed for the TUS Gaelic Grounds on Sunday October 30 at 4.30pm.
