Scotstown stayed on course for their third consecutive Monaghan senior football championship title by defeating Inniskeen on a 3-8 to 0-12 scoreline in Clones.
Darren Hughes and Damian McArdle provided the first-half goals that saw the holders go in with a one-point lead at the half and the teams would be level after five minutes or the restart.
Conor McCarthy would point Scotstown back in front and the livewire attacker would send a goal with five minutes to go before club and county colleague Rory Beggan denied Inniskeen the net late on with a fine penalty save deep in injury-time.
The defending champions now face Ballybay in two weeks’ time after the latter ran out 1-18 to 0-12 winners over Clontibret in the earlier game at St Tiernach’s Park.
A couple of Conor McManus points had Clontibret leading by two (0-8 to 0-6) at the halfway stage, but Paul Finlay had Ballybay level by the seventh minute of the restart and they’d pull away before Dessie Ward’s late goal booked them a first final berth in two years.
