Clane are through to their first Kildare senior football championship final in 24 years after earning a 1-12 to 1-8 victory over Athy in Newbridge this evening.
Tom Cribbin’s men produced the second-half goods to pull clear of their opponents and book their decider date against holders Naas in two weeks’ time.
Clane edged a 0-5 to 0-4 lead at the halfway stage, with their wasteful counterparts being punished by marksman Brian McLoughlin at the other end.
Five minutes into the restart and the ball was in Athy’s net thanks to a cool finish from Sam Reilly which proved a decisive blow.
The trailers did pull back a goal through James McGrath in the second minute of injury-time, but it wasn’t enough as Clane are now 60 minutes away from a first Dermot Bourke Cup in a quarter century.
