Evan McIntyre rescued a draw from the jaws of defeat for Cavan Gaels at Kingspan Breffni last night as his late point secured Jason O'Reilly's side a 1-12 apiece draw against Gowna in the opening quarter-final of the county senior football championship.
Last year's beaten finalists Gowna had trailed by six points - Kevin Meehan's goal fired the Gaels into a 1-9 to 0-6 lead within five minutes of resumption - and were a man down for the majority of the contest after full-back Ryan Brady was sent off in the first-half for an off-the-ball incident with Gearoid McKiernan.
But the Longford border men never gave up as a 47th minute Robbie Fitzpatrick goal and points in succession by Fitzpatrick, Conor Brady and Cian Madden saw them move two in front (1-12 to 1-10) before late efforts from substitute Luke Molloy and McIntyre forced a replay which will take place next weekend.
The last-eight action continues at Kingspan Breffni with Crosserlough up against Lacken this evening (throw-in 7.30pm), while Killygarry v Kingscourt Stars (4.00) and Mullahoran v Ramor United (7.00) will be played as a double-header tomorrow.
