SFC Group B: 'Bracks' head to relegation battle in good form

Ballinabrackey 4-6 Dunboyne 1-6

On Sunday evening Ballinabrackey got their first win of the championship against Dunboyne, who were also seeking their first victory of the 2022 Senior Championship season.

Slow to get started for both sides, but the Bracks got their first score on the board with a point from play from Danny Quinn, 4 minutes in. Dunboyne quickly responded with a point from David McEntee. A slow paced game, with a strong wind, both teams struggled to get the scores needed, but Quinner added another to his tally, before Sean Coffey pointed one of his own. Seamus Curry then slotted a point over the bar to put the Bracks 0:04 to 0:01 ahead. It was nearly 20 minutes before David McEntee got another point for Dunboyne, but Richie Coffey responded with a brilliant goal and rattled the oppositions net. Curry got a point from free just before the half time whistle leaving the score 1:05 to 0:02.

The Bracks got a dream start to the second half of with the other Coffey brother, Sean rattling the net, but Dunboyne responded strongly with a point from free and a goal from play, leaving the score at 2-5 to 1-3. The Bracks got their third goal immediately after from Erick Clancy, pushing them eight points ahead. Stuart Lowndes got a point from play for Dunboyne, and they followed up with two more points, but the Bracks finished strong with a final goal and a point from David Carroll.

Although a dead rubber game, as both teams face relegation play offs, it was good for a team boost to get the win in the last round of the group stages. Final score Ballinabrackey 4:06, Dunboyne 1:06.
